CHIEF SECRETARY POMALEU COMMENDS YOUTH LEADERSHIP IN THE SIR ANTONY SIAGURU ANNUAL WALK AGAINST CORRUPTION

Chief Secretary to Government, Ivan Pomaleu, OBE has commended the students of Gerehu  Secondary  School  for  their  participation  together  with  the  staff  of  Prime Minister’s Department in the Sir Antony Siaguru Annual Walk Against Corruption, held on Sunday June 21st 2026, in Port Moresby.

In a significant show of institutional unity, taking centre stage at the Sir John Guise Stadium, a dedicated contingent of over 20 students from Gerehu Secondary School, led a powerful charge to advocate on Papua New Guinea’s future defined by transparency and accountability.

Walking alongside other Government Agencies, Corporate Entities, Civil Societies, NGOs, and private institutions they chanted with a powerful slogan and war cry to advocate against corruption.

Chief Secretary Pomaleu said the Prime Minister’s Department is proud to have been represented by such a disciplined and forward-thinking group of young ambassadors.

“Their presence at this walkathon is a clear signal that the next generation is ready to take a visible stand for Integrity and Good Governance

The Chief Secretary’s remarks echo the sentiments of Gerehu Secondary School Principal, Mr. Saju Francis, who noted that first hand participation in such events is crucial for molding the mindsets of future leaders.

“It is heartening to see our youth not just participating, but leading the charge against societal malpractice,” Chief Secretary Pomaleu said.

Gerehu Secondary School Principal, Saju Francis thanked the event organizers and the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Department for their support and commitment to this cause.

“By confronting the “cancerous grip” of corruption early, these students are developing the resilience needed to become lifelong advocates for fairness, he said.

Chief Secretary  Pomaleu reiterated that this annual walkathon remains a vital platform in Papua New Guinea for mobilizing schools, civil society, and corporate partners.

“While many speak out against corruption, it is the translation of those words into meaningful action that creates real change,” he said.

The Chief Secretary maintained that the Government remains dedicated to fostering a culture of transparency and looks forward to the continued involvement of the nation’s youth in shaping a more accountable society.
