Prime Minister Hon. James Marape closed his address to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly today by outlining his government’s domestic development agenda aimed at improving infrastructure, public services, and economic growth for Papua New Guinea’s 11 million people.

Presenting to the international assembly in New York, Prime Minister Marape marked his country’s 51st year of independent nationhood by detailing ongoing state initiatives designed to expand the domestic economy and ensure that no citizens are left behind by modern development.

“I want to assure this Assembly that my government is working to ensure that none of our 11 million people is left behind as we pursue development, opportunity and a better quality of life in our God-given homeland,” the Prime Minis- ter said.

The Prime Minister reported that Papua New Guinea is actively executing plans to build enabling transportation infrastructure, upgrade public education systems, and expand healthcare delivery across its diverse terrain, which encompasses more than 800 languages and distinct cultural groups.

In terms of resource management and economic policy, the Prime Minister stated that his administration is transitioning toward cleaner energy alternatives, implementing conservation measures for its vast tropical forests and marine zones, and strengthening its independent judiciary and free-market structures to attract genuine foreign direct investment.
