PRIME MINISTER MARAPE EXPRESSES PAPUA NEW GUINEA’S DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON PASSING OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN SIRIKIT – THE QUEEN MOTHER OF THAILAND

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has conveyed, on behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, the country’s deepest Condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, recently on 24 October, 2025.

Prime Minister Marape described Her Majesty Queen Sirikit as an “inspiring matriarch, a remarkable humanitarian, and a cherished national figure whose legacy will live on for generations.”

In his official Message of Condolence delivered to His Excellency Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Prime Minister Marape stated that Papua New Guinea mourns alongside the Thai nation at this moment of profound loss.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, I extend our sincerest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Royal Family, the Government, and the resilient people of Thailand,” Prime Minister Marape said. “Her Majesty Queen Sirikit lived a life of dignity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of her people. Her passing is not only a loss for Thailand but for all nations who admired her leadership and humanitarian example.”

Her Majesty Queen Sirikit is globally remembered for her lifelong devotion to social development, cultural preservation, traditional craftsmanship, and rural community empowerment. Her leadership in promoting Thai arts, textiles, and traditional crafts helped uplift many communities while protecting Thailand’s cultural identity.

Prime Minister Marape highlighted these contributions, noting that they remain a powerful testament to her vision.

“Her Majesty’s tireless work in advancing culture, empowering local communities, and promoting national unity has left an irreplaceable legacy,” he said. “Her compassion and commitment to improving lives will continue to inspire leaders around the world, including us in Papua New Guinea.”

The Prime Minister also acknowledged Her Majesty’s revered status within Thailand, widely celebrated as the “Mother of the Nation.” He emphasized that such respect reflects not only her symbolic importance to the Thai people but also the practical impact of her work across decades of national service.

During this period of national mourning in Thailand, Prime Minister Marape reaffirmed Papua New Guinea’s solidarity and friendship with the Thai people.

“In moments such as these, we are reminded of our shared humanity and the deep bonds of friendship among nations,” he said. “Papua New Guinea stands with Thailand, offering prayers and support as the country navigates this difficult period. We honour Her Majesty’s memory and the profound impact she has left on the world.”

Prime Minister Marape further extended Papua New Guinea’s best wishes to King Maha Vajiralongkorn, the Royal Family, and the Government of Thailand as they lead their nation through this time of sorrow and remembrance.

He concluded his message by affirming the enduring partnership between Papua New Guinea and the Kingdom of Thailand.

“As Thailand honours the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, we also reaffirm our commitment to strengthening the ties between our two nations,” he said. “Her Majesty’s spirit of service, unity, and compassion will continue to guide us all toward a more peaceful and caring world.”
