It iswith profound sorrow and deep sadness that we, on behalf of the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council, extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues, and the people of Morobe Province about the death of Governor of Morobe Province Hon. Luther Asikawa Wenge, who was called to rest on the 13th of September 2025 at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
The late Governor Wenge served for three terms in parliament as Governor of Morobe from 1997to 2012 and later he was re-elected as Governor in 2022. In that role, he brought with him not only institutional knowledge but also humility, resilience, and a quiet determination to serve this country as a Member of Parliament.
Governor Wenge was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke volumes. Hiscolleagues and contemporaries alike have described him as a man of great zeal, courage, and professional integrity. He carried out his duties with diligence and humility, often going beyond the call of duty as an MP to ensure that the Government’s mandate to support provinces and districts was met and government services is delivered to his people of Morobe Province.
In so doing, he contributed meaningfully to nation building in a sector that touches the daily lives of our people in the public service space – as Chair to the Bipartisan Committee which he oversees the reforms for Provincial Administrations in the country.
In him, we saw the true character of a member of parliament-one who did not seek recognition or praise but worked tirelessly for the betterment of others. His service stands as a reminder to all of us that leadership isnot about position or title, but about character, dedication, and the quiet pursuit of excellence.
Today, as we mourn his passing, we also celebrate hislife and legacy. To hisfamily, know that Governor Wenge was deeply respected, admired, and valued by his colleagues and by this Department. Hismemory will remain a source of inspiration to all of the fellow Member of ParliamenL Departmental Heads and the Public Servants who had the privilege of working alongside him.
As his soul departs to its eternal rest, we take comfort in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Psalm 23:4.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. “
May the late Governor Wenge’s rest peacefully in eternal life, and may his legacy of humble service and professionalism continue to inspire the public service and our nation. “
