PRIME MINISTER MARAPE WELCOMES NEW ZEALAND HIGH COMMISSIONER H.E GEORGINA ROBERTS TO PNG

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, MP, has warmly welcomed the newly appointed High Commissioner of New Zealand to Papua New Guinea, Her Excellency Georgina Roberts.

The Prime Minister welcomed her as she presented her letter of introduction to him today at the Office of the Prime Minister, Melanesian Haus.

Her Excellency Georgina Roberts brings with her a wealth of experience from serving as High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Prime Minister Marape stated that H.E. Roberts’ appointment to Papua New Guinea comes at a pivotal moment in our history and that she will become a part of that history.

He also noted that Papua New Guinea and New Zealand share a long history of relations, including cultural and people-to-people ties.

Prime Minister Marape gave full assurance of cooperation to the incoming envoy, highlighting the deep mutual understanding that exists between both countries.

He reiterated that PNG’s foreign policy of “Friends to All and Enemies to None” still stands, stating, “We will not compromise our relations with New Zealand.”

The Prime Minister further extended the Government’s thanks to the Government of New Zealand for the Statement of Partnership 2019–2029.

He said that in terms of the implementation of the Statement of Partnership, it is going very well, although there are a few points that the Papua New Guinea  side needs to deliver on.

Prime Minister Marape also thanked New Zealand for the role it played in the Bougainville Peace Process and informed the High Commissioner that its help will still be needed.
