PM Marape Calls on Citizens, Districts and Provinces to ‘Work, Work, Work’ for Economic Growth

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has called on all Papua New Guineans to take personal and collective responsibility for economic growth, drawing lessons from global discussions at the World Economic Forum.

“The world will not wait for lazy people,” Prime Minister Marape said bluntly.

He urged citizens to make productive use of land, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, and Small-to-Medium Enterprises, noting strong global demand for PNG products such as coffee, cocoa, fish, and agricultural produce.

“Markets are abundant. The opportunity is there. We must produce,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted successful local exporters as examples of what is possible when initiative meets opportunity.

He also called on District and Provincial Governments to become economic drivers, not just service centres, using available advisors in agriculture, education, youth, and community development.

“Every District has the tools. What we need now is leadership and action,” he said.

Prime Minister Marape reiterated the Government’s focus on Youth mobilisation through SME development, second-chance education, and labour mobility programs.

“Our future depends on preparing our young people for productive participation in the economy,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming the Government’s commitment to advancing major projects, reforms, and economic opportunities in 2026.

“Work, work, work – together we can make Papua New Guinea stronger,” Prime Minister Marape said.
