Chief Secretary to Papua New Guinea Government, Mr, Ivan Pomaleu, OBE, has thanked the Prime Minister of Fiji, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka CF OBE MSD, for hosting the PNG Delegates to Suva who were attending the Pacific Heads of Prime Minister’s Departments Meeting in Fiji.
Chief Secretary Pomaleu was speaking during a welcome dinner event on Wednesday night 22nd October 2025 in Suva, acknowledged the Prime Minister of Fiji, Mr. Sitiveni Rabuka, and his Fijian counter part, Dr Lesi Korovavala for hosting this event.
“On behalf of all the delegates representing the Pacific governments, I extend our sincere gratitude to you, your government, and the people of Fiji for your hospitality and for your continued leadership within our region. We thank you for your inspiring words this evening, and for reminding us that public service is ultimately about service to our people with humility, integrity, and purpose.
“It is my great honour to deliver this vote of thanks on behalf of my fellow Heads of Prime Ministers’ Departments and our delegations from across the Pacific,” he said.
Chief Secretary Pomaleu expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Sitiveni, for his gracious welcome and for hosting them warmly in Suva.
“We are honored by your presence, in your capacity as Prime Minister of Fiji, as well as the elder statesman of the Pacific. The pacific is unified in our cultural practices of respecting our elders.
“Sir! Thank you for honoring us tonight with your esteemed presence and your kind words. Your remarks this evening have set exactly the right tone for the discussions ahead — it reminds us that effective government coordination, unity of purpose, and servant leadership are the foundations of national progress and regional stability,” the Chief Secretary said.
While emphasizing on the theme of the meeting “Coordinating Policy and Delivery Across Government” the Chief Secretary explained that it speaks directly to the core task that binds us all as public service leaders which we share a common mission: to translate political vision into tangible results for our people.
“The exchanges we will have tomorrow on tracking policy progress, strengthening public service leadership, and upholding our values in a political environment will help each of us to do that better in our respective countries, which in turn strengthens us collectively,” he said.
In addition, Chief Secretary Pomaleu said for Papua New Guinea, our partnership with Fiji has a deep friendship and shared history which have been forged for a very long time.
“We have long admired Fiji’s leadership in regional affairs, and we continue to value the close cooperation between our governments and our public services through trade, education, peacekeeping, and people-to-people connections. Your voice has been prominent in sustainable development and climate change.
I was privileged to be in the room sir, as you and Prime Minister Marape, conducted your conversations in Port Moresby and note the deep resonance displayed on common issues,” he said.
Chief Secretary Pomaleu reaffirmed that PNG will continue to advocate for stronger and resilient pacific. One that allows our people to be themselves, but have the ability to deal with their needs and aspirations singularly and collectively, and an emergingly challenging context.
“That would be the Pacific way. “Pacific family faces new and complex challenges from climate change and economic uncertainty, to emerging regional security and strategic issues. These are challenges no country can address alone.
They demand that we, as a region, work together more effectively than ever before: sharing information, strengthening coordination across our governments, and supporting each other in building capable, resilient public institutions,” he said.
In addition, Mr, Pomaleu also thanked Fijian Government Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Lesi Korovavala for the rich line up of the agenda and the issues to be discussed.
“I think those are very relevant to the core duties that each of us are performing in our respective countries, and maintains the core intents of why the group was established in the first place.
Please be assured that Papua New Guinea, and indeed all our countries represented here, remain committed to working hand in hand with Fiji and our Pacific neighbors to advance peace, prosperity, and security for our Blue Pacific Continent,” the Chief Secretary concluded.
