Chairman and Director of Reset@50, Charles Abel CBE, has commended the Department of Works, government, Minister, and Prime Minister, for the historic opening of the pilot road linking Lae and Port Moresby.

“The country has to be connected physically through a road network and a communications network and have access to electricity.”

Reset under Principle 2 – “Human Development   and the Family”, Big Bet 4 – Bring Power and Internet Accessibility to All” speaks of the road network connectivity   of Vanimo to Alotau and the Trans Island Highway (together with the Highlands Highway) as a basis for the national power and communications   grid, with Starlink type services, and micro solar solutions powering our remote villages.

“Internet   should actually be made free in PNG. It is such a powerful human development   tool today and into the future.”   said Mr Abel.

“Much effort has been made to upgrade the Highlands Highway, and we need to get the Trans Island Highway up to a national highway standard as soon as possible so that we have the basis of a national grid that reaches the bulk of our population.”
