Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, MP today addressed the people of Kaintiba in Gulf Province where he unveiled a commemorative plaque with the    inscription ‘Rot Bai Kam’ (Road Will Come), marking the completion of a 6-year pilot track project by the Department of Works & Highways.

The project is a critical infrastructure link aimed at connecting Gulf Province to Lae and Mt Hagen by road, opening up access for goods, services, and people across the Highlands and Southern regions.

Speaking to a large gathering of community leaders, landowners and residents, the Prime Minister acknowledged the patience and resilience of the people of Kaintiba throughout the six years of construction.

“This plaque is more than just concrete and steel. It marks a journey of commitment — 6 years of work to connect our people,” PM Marape said.

“When Gulf is connected to Lae and to Mt Hagen, you are no longer isolated. Markets, schools, hospitals and opportunities will now come closer to you.”

The Prime Minister commended the Department of Works & Highways, contractors, and local communities for delivering the pilot track despite the tough terrain and weather challenges.

He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to continue upgrading the link into a full highway standard to support trade, agriculture and economic activity in Gulf Province.

“Our goal is simple: connect PNG. From the coast to the highlands, from the islands to the mainland. When our roads are open, our economy moves,” the Prime Minister stated.

The unveiling was witnessed by local MPs, provincial leaders, DOWH officials and community members.

On  5th  September  2020,  the  Prime  Minister  had  visited  Kaintiba  Station unannounced  with  Gulf  Governor  Chris  Haiveta,  the  then  Works  Minister Michael Nali and  the  then  Works  Secretary  David  Wereh,  making  a commitment to two adults and a few village children that ‘Rot Bai Kam’.

This Trans National Highway is now the outcome of that commitment made in 2020.
