Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has expressed his deep concern over the disappearance of 12 people, including employees of the East New Britain Provincial Health Authority and members of their families, who remain missing at sea in East New Britain.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with those who remain missing, their families, loved ones and the people of East New Britain during this very difficult time,” Prime Minister Marape said.

“On behalf of the National Government and all Papua New Guineans, I offer our prayers for the safe recovery of those still unaccounted for. We also pray that God will strengthen the families as they endure this painful period of uncertainty.”

Prime Minister Marape said the National Government stands ready to support the East New Britain Provincial Government, provincial disaster authorities, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and all agencies involved in the ongoing search and rescue operation.

“I have directed the relevant national agencies to remain ready to provide whatever assistance may be required. The National Government will work closely with the provincial authorities to ensure every possible effort is made in the search for the missing persons.”

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the dedication of police, disaster officials, volunteers, local boat operators, air crews and community members participating in the search.

“We are grateful to everyone who continues to search under very challenging conditions. Your commitment gives hope to the affected families and reflects the compassion and resilience of our people.”

Prime Minister Marape called on Papua New Guineans to keep the missing persons, their families and the search teams in their prayers as efforts continue.
