Chief Secretary to Government Ivan Pomaleu, OBE today underscored the critical importance of quality education in national development during his keynote address at the Divine Word University (DWU) Graduation Ceremony at the Port Moresby Campus.
A total of 244 qualified individuals were celebrated for their achievements, poised to embark on new journeys.
Speaking at the Caritas Technical Secondary School Hall, Mr. Pomaleu extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduands, their families, and the DWU faculty.
He emphasized that education is the “cornerstone for progress and development,” empowering individuals and cultivating future leaders who will drive societal advancement.
“This is not just a moment of personal achievement but a significant step towards contributing to the future of Papua New Guinea,” Mr. Pomaleu stated.
He highlighted DWU’s longstanding reputation as a “beacon of quality education,” which consistently promotes Integral Human Development through quality education, transformative research, and community engagement.
Today’s graduation saw an impressive cohort of 29 Masters, 151 Bachelor, and 93 Diploma recipients, particularly in Management and Business Studies.
He commended the University’s MBA program, designed for leadership development to equip professionals for influential roles across government departments and private organizations.
Mr. Pomaleu affirmed that DWU’s mission aligns seamlessly with the National Government’s Medium-Term Development Plan 4 (MTDP 4) and Vision 2050, as well as the “Reset @ 50” initiative, all aimed at bolstering the educational landscape and promoting quality education that uplifts individuals and communities.
In addition, Mr. Pomaleu stressed the essential role of transformative research, a vital component of DWU’s mission, in shaping policies and enhancing community welfare.
He urged the new graduates to remain steadfast in their commitment to continuous learning and to utilize their education to make a positive impact in their communities.
“The National Government is committed to collaborating with esteemed institutions like DWU to ensure the continued promotion of quality education and Integral Human Development in Papua New Guinea,” he concluded.
