Prime Minister Hon. Chief James Marape GCL, MP, arrived in the Solomon Islands today (08.09.25) to attend the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting (PIFLM) in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The Prime Minister will attend the opening ceremony of the 54th PIFLM, and later in the week join other PIF leaders to sign the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) Treaty. The treaty is a home-grown facility that will manage and provide small grants for small community-based climate projects and disaster risk management.
Prime Minister Marape is a strong advocate of climate financing which aims to help communities implement adaptation projects, including land reclamation, so indigenous Pacific islanders remain in their communities instead of being relocated as climate refugees.
The Prime Minister also expects to sign two agreements with the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Hon. Jeremy Manele on the margins of the 54th Pacific Is- lands Leaders Meeting in Honiara.
The two agreements are:
1. Agreement concerning the administration of Special Areas. This will be for areas between Solomon Islands and Milne Bay, and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Solomon Islands; and
2. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on combined surveillance of the common maritime borders between PNG and Solomon Islands.
